The Empty Nest

Yearning for some me time, I found a moment to two tonight to post a photo taken on our drive home from New Jersey two weeks ago. At one of the rest stops along our travels, I found this empty nest once filled with new baby birds. It made me sad to see it now exposed for everyone to see.
And then I got to thinking how traumatic it was when our first born left for college. After leaving the college campus, my husband and I pulled off the road and we both cried uncontrollably for a good 15 minutes. Our baby left left our nest. Our home would never be the same.
That baby girl turns 32 years of age today. She is a married woman and a new mother with a terrific family of her own. Her nest is just beginning to expand.

Yes, it's sad that our babies grow all too fast and leave the nest, but it's nice when they don't fly too far away from us. We're more fortunate than some friends I know. At least our grandchildren are close and we may see them whenever we want.

A beautiful, meaningful photo. I've been seeing many exposed nests around here now, too. Its hard to have kids grow up and move on, but that's what is supposed to happen.....we parents adjust somehow.

I see nests like this everywhere now with all the leaves gone, but this one is especially pretty because of the little red berries! I can't believe you have a 32 year old!! Congratulations! And what an adorable grandchild.

Hi Deb...first your grandbaby is adorable. And we both had the same leaving the daughter at college experiance...Only slightly different. We took our Heather 1,000 miles away to Ithaca, N.Y. as a new mid-year student she was to start in January instead of September. So we dropped her off during the blizzard of 94'. No one was back from Christmas break yet and there she was like an orphan standing on the curb in the snow infront of her dorm waving goodbye.....the husband in tears like you wouldn't believe and then I said those terrible words....."Quick, pull away before she changes her mind"....I still feel bad to this day....She just turned 33 and she has a new baby as well...thank goodness we can laugh about it today.....

Christmas in July Give A Way

What better way to celebrate the middle of summer with a give a way for one lucky blogging friend? Just because I want to, I will be giving away a Christmas box with an accordion album. This happens to be my design and I have already given one away last December. Sorry, Kate , you will have to sit this one out! This paper mache box holds an accordion album inside. More than likely, I will make a minor modification to the box before shipping it to its new home. I really love these vintage papers from Melissa Frances Scrapbook . Her collection of designs and patterns reminds me of a little sea side cottage. I can smell the ocean spray right now. Tyler Florence Made Me Breakfast!

Yes, it is true!  Tyler Florence from Food Network made me blueberry pancakes, maple sugar pepper bacon and caramelized bananas.  How did this happen, you say?  In short, my children gave me tickets to The Metropolitan Cooking Show in Atlanta as a birthday present.  Being a diehard Tyler Florence fanatic, I opted for the special show to gaze upon my favorite celebrity chef.  Not being a shy gal, I ran up to the mike to ask my very probing question.  “What is the secret of making risotto?” Here I am on the big screen asking my question to Tyler Florence.
