What's in a Name?

What do our names mean? And beyond that, where do they come from? Ever since I was a young child, I remember wanting to know the meaning of my name. Imagine how surprised I was after reading the family Bible that my name meant "bee" and it was a derivative from the Hebrew language. Why did my Catholic parents give me a Hebrew name? Time to further my knowledge. Back to the Bible to learn that Deborah was the Biblical prophetess who summoned Barak (hmm...Barrack?) to battle against an army of invaders. After the battle she wrote a victory song which is part of the Book of Judges. I'm liking this name more and more!
One day, I asked my mother how did she come to name me Deborah? Did they love honey? Did they secretly want to be Jewish? No, none of those silly ideas were true. Turns out that Mom wanted to name me Carol but my dad really was enamoured with Debbie Reynolds! To this day, I meet so many other "50 something" Deborah's, Debbie's or Deb's whose fathers fell in love with the movie star Debbie Reynolds!
So here I am....sucking nectar from the wild flowers!
I still prefer the warrior, prophetess, song writer part of me much better!

Ummmm...I was also named after Debbie Reynolds. My 30 something daughter has no idea who Debbie Reynolds is. She may recognize her famous daughters - Carey Fisher (Princess Leah) or Joley Fisher. Not sure if my dad was enamored with Debbie or if my mom was a Debbie-wanna-be. But 53 years later, here I am.

The little bee fluttering around doing for everyone and making sure everyone is happy is you. You are also the mighty lady warrior and I can see you writing a song to tell about it. Seems that I have two lady warriors that mean a lot to me. You and Debra, my good buddies. I think you did picture a bumble bee? And hi, Debbie Reynolds was not so bad. Keep up the flittering and the fighting.

I would just like to say that I DO TO know who Debbie Reynolds is! Singin' In The Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown are two of my favorite movies. Apparently mom forgot who raised me. Two people who both love classic rock and classic movies.

Christmas in July Give A Way

What better way to celebrate the middle of summer with a give a way for one lucky blogging friend? Just because I want to, I will be giving away a Christmas box with an accordion album. This happens to be my design and I have already given one away last December. Sorry, Kate , you will have to sit this one out! This paper mache box holds an accordion album inside. More than likely, I will make a minor modification to the box before shipping it to its new home. I really love these vintage papers from Melissa Frances Scrapbook . Her collection of designs and patterns reminds me of a little sea side cottage. I can smell the ocean spray right now.
